Description
This roundtable during the 3rd Financing for Development prepcom session will explore how financial instruments, including thematic bonds and responsible investing, can be leveraged to combat modern slavery and human trafficking. Aligned with the Financial Sector Commission’s ‘Blueprint’ for Mobilizing Finance Against Slavery and Trafficking and the broader Financing for Development (FfD4) agenda, the discussion will focus on integrating human rights considerations into sustainable finance to address systemic vulnerabilities affecting populations, communities, and economies.
Financial institutions, investors, governments, and development partners are increasingly recognizing the need for innovative financial mechanisms to support ethical supply chains and fair labor practices. Thematic bonds, impact investing, and ESG frameworks provide powerful tools to align capital flows with SDG 8.7, ensuring that financial markets contribute to sustainable and socially responsible outcomes. This session will examine existing financial tools, their effectiveness, and opportunities to scale solutions that address modern slavery and labor exploitation.
With financial markets showing strong demand for sustainable debt instruments, there is an urgent need to develop structured financing solutions that embed anti-modern slavery benchmarks into investment strategies. By sharing insights and case studies, this roundtable will identify successful approaches, tackle key challenges, and shape the next steps in embedding the Blueprint’s principles into global financial frameworks.
